Marisa Monte ‎– Green, Blue, Yellow, Rose And Charcoal - 1994 CD

When this album was first issued in the mid 90s by EMI, it quietly glided onto the market, with very little effect. Over the past few years, though, the record has slowly been championed by a large number of American critics and musicians, and has come to be one of the most critically acclaimed releases by a Brazilian musician in recent years. The album's a mix of jazz-tinged vocal tracks by Marisa, with a style that certainly owes something to earlier Brazilian singers like Gal Costa or Joyce, but which also has lots of its own nice touches. Arto Linday produced the set, and Marisa runs through a batch of songs that includes versions of Lou Reed's "Pale Blue Eyes", Arnaldo Antunes "Deepest Night", Jorge Ben's "Balanca Pema", and her own "Enquanto Isso", sung with Laurie Anderson. There's also loads of guests on the album – like Gilberto Gil, Carlinhos Brown, and others!
