Maria Bethania - Alteza - Vinyl - 1981

Maria Bethania's warmed her sound up a fair bit here from earlier releases – and is hitting the same blend of jazz overtones and larger arrangements used during the same period by Caetano Veloso and Gal Costa – both of whom were maturing at a similar pace! There's still a fair bit of depth to most of the tunes here, and instead of going soft with the added backings and mellower setting, Maria instead hits a more deeply personal approach – one that's somewhat intimate at times, and which has her opening up a whole new side of her voice. Titles include "Rosa Do Viver", "Alteza", "Suplica", "Amiga Dos Ventos", "Maravida", "Atiraste Uma Pedra", and "Purificar O Subae".
(Includes the original insert.)
